WASHINGTON, May 16, 2007 — Bank of Georgetown, a Washington, D.C.-chartered community bank, has hired Brett W. Kaplowitz as senior vice president of commercial banking, specializing in the area of commercial and real estate lending.

A third-generation Washingtonian with more than 20 years’ experience in the area’s banking industry, Kaplowitz previously was vice president at Mercantile Potomac Bank, a regional bank based in Gaithersburg, Md., serving D.C., Maryland and Virginia communities. In this role, he provided loans and financial services to real estate property owners, developers and investors as well as small to midmarket companies.

A noted expert in the banking industry, he has authored several articles published by the Washington Business Journal and has been quoted several times in Inc. magazine. Kaplowitz also teaches graduate students once a semester at the University of Maryland on how to get bank loans and has taught business development officers at the U.S. Small Business Administration how to analyze bank loan requests.
Kaplowitz is an active supporter of the American Diabetes Association. He has been the D.C. area’s top individual fundraiser for its walkathon the past six years and was recognized at ADA’s national event in 2005 for his development leadership on behalf of the organization.
Kaplowitz earned dual bachelor’s degrees, in business and chemistry, from the University of Miami and a Master of Business Administration in finance from Tulane University. He is a life member of Alpha Epsilon Pi.
